Packing tape dispensers are intended to make taping easier, but is that true?
When sealing your package, having the right length and a clean cut are the first things that come to mind, but it's more than that. Choosing the right tape dispenser can save you time and money.
Having a packing tape dispenser makes everything easier!
Packing tape dispenser designs come in two distinct options, but they are generally called the same thing. Let's explore both, so you can decide which to invest in.
Palm held tape dispensers
Palm held packing tape dispensers are intended for light to medium-duty taping. The dispenser and tape roll are in the palm of your hand and provide superior control. The material could be plastic or metal. Both will have a metal serrated end.
These are personally my favorite because I have greater wrist control while using them. All the weight is centered in my hand and creates no strain on my wrist or forearm. I'm able to pivot the dispenser to cut the packing tape at a smaller angle than larger handheld tape dispensers.
Handheld tape dispensers
Handheld packing tape dispensers are intended for medium to heavy-duty packing. The additional feature that these highlight is the tall plastic piece near the cutter that is intended to help push down the tape. The packing tapes these dispensers are created for are called Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) tapes. This means they require downward pressure to completely adhere to the packaging surface. The tape dispenser's additional push down accessory isn't a sufficient replacement for using your hand to fully secure the packing tape to the package.
The majority of the weight is at the end of the tape dispenser and the handle provides a comfortable ergonomic grip. It's used for manual closing, strapping, packaging, and bundling applications in various working environments.
Which one would you choose?
The main feature of packing tape dispensers that will save you time and money is that it keeps the end of the tape from sticking back to the roll. We all know how frustrating it can be when you have to find the end of the tape. It's up to you to choose the right of these for your business that aligns with your workload and wrist/hand comfort.
